A pack of Vampires converge on a small Alaska town as it is about to go through a period of 30 days of night, a natural phenomenon. Josh Harnett plays the local sheriff and is faced with trying to protect the townsfolk and his estranged wife Melissa George. The vampires in this movie are quite unusual looking and sounding. They speak a foreign gibberish language and are relentlessly aggressive. Special attention was paid to choosing odd looking actors who brought a distinct look to each vampire character. Danny Huston is simply outstanding as the lead vampire and I'm sure his performance will leave an impression on any one who views 30 DAYS OF NIGHT. David Slade creates a vivid landscape of stunning cinematography and the sound design & music are exceptional. Josh Hartnett is better than good as the local sheriff. His performance is pretty low key and he does come off as a believable police officer. Melissa George isn't bad as his wife. Special Features include: Audio Commentary with Josh Hartnett, Melissa George and Producer Rob Tapert. There is 8 Behind-The-Scenes Featurettes that are very well done and totally capture the making of the movie. Seeing the work that went in building the small town and creating snowy landscape is impressive. This movie came with some hype fanfare, which developed from the comic book's reputation. This early expectation level was definitely met and surpassed in my book. 30 DAYS OF NIGHT is one of the better vampire films I've seen made in the past decade. It's stylish, features some brutal violence and is an outstanding audio/visual spectacle. | ||
