The American Dollar - Atlas

Yesh Music – 2010

Clickety-clack, rat-a-tat-tat, boom-a-da-boom.  Atlas is the most percussive album I've heard The American Dollar create thus far.  Their normal cool guitars, moody keyboards and bass lines are surrounded by all sorts of smacking sounds to give this disc propulsion.

13 Songs are worth 55 minutes of lively music that is rock, ambient and even new age at times.  These two guys John Emanuele & Richard Cupolo are very good at making you think about life with their music and at the same time inspiring you in the process.

The piano dominates the soundscape of "A Few Words."  Then the keyed instrument takes us through an "Age of Wonder."

"Oil and Water" has an electric guitar acting as one element, while the percussion is the other.  It's a bit of a combustible mix as the guitar is frantic scurrying about the track.

The main guitar rhythm of "Circuits" is hypnotic and the keyboard adds a dream quality to the music.

The percussive hits, especially the cymbals make "Equinox" standout.  The keyboard parts are fluffy.

The positive flow of "Second Sight" makes it my favorite on the album.  I think the guitar part is very memorable and the main reason for me liking the track so much.

The high keyboard of "Frontier Melt" almost sounds like a lullaby.

An outpouring of emotion spills into "Flood."  This flow cascades over you while listening and makes you feel good inside.

I really love the music this band creates.  I've listened to their previous albums too many times to count.

I do highly endorse getting this CD and urge you to check out The American Dollar.
