It's really great to see Andy Timmons on DVD and give the world a chance to experience "The Groove Master" play in a live environment. Timmons, who is easily one of my top-ten guitarists of all-time, plays his latest album Resolution in it's entirety. The combination of hard rocking tunes with soulful instrumental songs are a real treat for all of us. The visual look of the picture quality is clean, colorful and captures The Granada Theater in Dallas, Texas with class. The sound is dynamic, which I mainly attribute to the talented musicians involved. Andy has the unique ability to play high octane riffs, passionate soloing and mixes it all together with extraordinary technique and taste on his Ibanez guitar. But make no mistake, it's all about being musical and melodic. He's not a show off but rather a complete guitarist who can do it all. Every song has purpose and Andy has a lot to say within each track. There's no vocals per say, yet he is able to clearly his passion for life with the strings vibrating through distortion to his amplified speakers. Dan Wojciechowski provides the lively drums and Mike Daane's bass keeps things together. All the tracks deliver something memorable. Energy and mastery of the instrument is established in the first track "Deliver Us." Andy's dexterity with soloing in "Helipad" is just awesome. The softness that turns to heavy riffs with southern tinge really gives "Ghost of You" texture. "Resolution" has the feel of a tune rooted in history. I was rocking to the rhythm of "Redemption" and the middle section of this track has some nice interplay between the bass and drums. "Lydia" starts as a little love song and builds into a full blown relationship with hard rock. You can't but help but feel the tremendous pain and sorrow Andy felt over what happened on 9/11 in "Gone (09/11/01)." The mood hits an upswing with "Move On." The groove in "Beware Dark Days" had me going from the first note. It's signature Andy Timmons that's for sure. "The Prayer/The Answer" reaches deep for your heart and succeeds in touching it. Just beautiful playing. All bets are off when Andy and his boys unleash the unstoppable force of "Headed For The Ditch." The DVD comes with some cool Special Features; Steve Vai has a nice Introduction that appropriately ushers in the Texas guitarist. There's some great footage of Andy and his band in the studio during Resolution CD recording sessions with my favorite being seeing how easily Andy pulls off the difficult plaing of "Headed For The Ditch." A Photo Gallery and Discography rounds out the DVD. Go to Andy's site to pick up this musical treasure.
