Black Label Society - The European Invasion Doom Troopin' - LIVE

Eagle Vision Entertainment - 2006

Zakk Wylde is a real heavy metal looking dude with a mean and nasty attitude to his music.  He probably should have existed in Viking time because the guy could easily fit in with those rough & tumble people.  But that's only part of Ozzy's stalwart guitarist.  This DVD exposes the gruff, muscular guitarist in another light when we get to hear him speak, working out with his son and the admiration he has for his favorite guitarists, which is shown by the photos and posters that hang his home gym.

But let's get to the music.  Disc One has the Paris and London Chapters.  BLS performs sixteen tracks in France and another four in England.  One of the things that will strike you about the way Zakk performs is the amount of beer he drinks, I mean for goodness sake, he has a line of large cups sitting the front of the drums and it's surprising that he can sing and play the way he does considering he consumes most of those during the show.  "Stoned And Drunk" and "Destruction Overdrive" are just two of the tunes to rock to.  The "Ironman Interlude" was a cool surprise.  I was very touched with seeing Zakk play a similar guitar model of the late Dimebag Darrell and play "In This River" for his departed friend.  After Zakk looks up to heavens above, he says to the crowd, "This song will never leave the Black Label set because it's for the first Black Label Brother to be laid to rest with the colors on.  The good Lord needed him.  He was an angel, so they took him back home.  This goes out to Dimebag."

It's on Disc Two where you get to know about Zakk Wylde personally.  I found this footage, the interviews, behind the scenes stuff the most interesting.  Don't get me wrong I love to rock the heck out of BLS music but it's really nice and cool to see that Zakk is a real person with feelings, love and lives the way many of his fans do.

This 2-DVD set is jammed pack with material.  Disc One runs approximately 148 minutes, while Disc Two is around 74 minutes.  The sound is offered in both DTS Digital and Dolby 5.1 Surround and of course is 16:9 Widescreen.
