Being Human –
Music by Richard Wells

Silva Screen Records - 2011

I've never seen this BBC TV show, but if the music is any indication, BEING HUMAN has to be really good.  The strongest aspect of Richard Wells music is how incredibly diversely rich it is.  The tone switches from almost track to track, which is a testament to Wells ability to musically morph into the need of each cue.

For example "Gilbert's Door" is really gentle and ambient with acoustic guitar and atmospheric keyboard.  Where as understated piano gives "Resurrection" a creepy feel.  Then there's a mellow light jazz sound to "Leaving."  Romance and love make "Molly" beautiful and delicate.  Then things turn dark and dangerous in "Beautiful Chaos," which has hard rock elements at the end.

My favorite track might be the 20th cue "Vampire Annihilation" pure beauty and darkness.

Another plus about the music for this TV show is the instrument sound are recorded and mixed to perfection.

BEING HUMAN is probably the most underrated CD I've reviewed this year.  When I saw it was a BBC TV show about a werewolf, vampire and invisible young lady I thought for sure it would be silly and kind of corny.  I could not have been more wrong about the music.

BEING HUMAN Series 1 & 2 is stately, elegant, suspenseful and dramatic.  Take a chance and pick this up.  You'll probably be as surprised as I was at how good BEING HUMAN is.
