The latest Satriani album has a relaxed, cool groove that still rocks. Joe is right in the pocket with "Premonition," another one of his boogie variations. The funky rhythm guitar in "Dream Song" reminds me a little of Audioslave. The drums and bass really compliment this guitar and Joe has some fun accenting the rest of the tune. There is a musical brightness to "Prrhic Victoria." In the middle, Joe does one of his signature solo runs. "Light Years Away" is one of my favorite songs off this album. It starts with Satch rockin' hard but the best parts are when the song slows down at 1-minute 40 seconds and 3-minutes 55 seconds. This is where there's a little back-n-forth between the guitar, drums and bass. The small soft keyboard touches are brilliant and totally memorable. With Satriani's tour schedule and pretty much always being in the musical public eye, I'll bet that "Solitude" is a nice place for him to be. You can feel it with this gentle composition. "Littleworth Lane" has the bluesy feel of Jeff Beck. It's purposeful and space is given for the music to breath. The percussion is exotic in "The Golden Room" and Joe plays off matching the wild colors with his whammy bar guitar work. There is musical movement to "Two Sides To Every Story." My other favorite track is "Wormhole Wizards." The opening keyboard helps establish the positive mood of this tune. The guitar and keyboard have the same purpose and work together to achieve a higher state of music. I really liked the keyboard solo at he 4-minute 30 second mark. Joe finishes up with some beautiful guitar embellishment. The slow relaxed beat of "Wind In The Trees" allow for the guitars and keyboards to have some fun. Satriani goes out on a high note as his most expressive playing happens in the last track "God Is Crying." I don't know how many albums Joe Satriani and Mike Fraser have produced together but whatever is this is proof those guys have it down pat.
