Bruno Sanfilippo - Subliminal Pulse

Spotted Peccary Records – 2011

Bruno Sanfilippo says, "Sometimes the poetic language of music reveals what cannot be seen.  It shows a reality that has nothing to do with words.  With my electronic instruments, I take the universe's Subliminal Pulse and I try to build a bridge between my inner pulse and the pulse of the outer space."

The first three tracks; "The Third Geometry," "Santa Luminosa" and "Spirit Allies" are subtle and grab onto the flow of the energy Sanfilippo speaks of.  It's music that moves at a consistent rate and style that make you feel life at work.

The fourth cut "Intrinsic Fluctuations" runs fourteen minutes and goes from sort of lighter first half to a heavier last half.  The details are composed with a light touch, making the differences almost invisible yet the contrast is there.

The title track has almost a child like quality to it.  This probably stems from the little bell-like notes  sounding like a toy that a child would play with.

Sanfilippo opens up the soundscape a bit with "Slipped Time."  There is more air to the cue with the composition done with a larger scope.  He continues this with "Pulsum Sacrum," which focuses more on the higher part of the sound registry thus bringing the album upward.

"Mantram" wraps the disc up with a sort of mellow celestial feel.  Subliminal Pulse is an album that takes the time to express the inner workings and accomplishes with Sanfilippo set out to do.
