Dream Theater - Chaos In Motion 2007-2008 Roadrunner Records - 2008 | |
|
Disc One is Around The World In 180 minutes. That means you have over 3-hours of DT performing live at a collection of different venues all over the world. These shows were spread out over 2007/2008. If you missed their awesome tour this is one way to make up for your loss. If you attended one of their amazing performances, then this will bring back those memories and give you a chance to experience that DT rush of musical ecstasy again over and over. The song selection runs pretty much the course of their discography and is performed the only way Dream Theater can do. The song and the order is: Intro
(theme from Psycho) / Also Sprach Zarathustra On Bonus Materials Disc Two you get to experience all the behind the scenes moments that go on to make Dream Theater's live show possible. Sections include: Behind The Chaos on the Road - This is a revealing look at what the band goes through on a daily basis and what it takes to do what they do live. It gives you an idea how tough it must be and yet they've been doing it over twenty years. I totally respect these guys even more after witnessing the amount of details and preparation that goes into each live show. The sub sections of this chapter are: Pt.1 The Band, Pt. 2 The Crew, PT. 3 The Pre-Show, PT. 4 The Show. Talk about covering all bases. Promo Videos - "Constant Motion" this killer track is visualized with the band filmed against a jet black background and animation of the ants crawling amongst the street roadways and traffic lights (as seen on Systematic Chaos cover). What I like best about this is that background lets you focus on just the band and there is no distracting elements. The only thing I didn't like about this video is that the song edited down to shorter length, but I guess they probably couldn't get it played on one of the video stations without doing that. "Forsaken" is animated in the fashion of HEAVY METAL, with a story of a guy surrendering to a female vampire who bites him. Her bite takes him into another dimension by flying up into another world of Rome-like proportion. "Forsaken" In Studio - is exactly that. You will recognize the footage of the band from the Systematic Chaos studio time. This is cool because the song grooves big time. I like how the bands performance was covered by a massive amount of coverage. "The Dark Eternal Night (In Studio)" is neat to see when the guys where in the studio recording this mashing tune. Live Screen Projection Films features the animated film footage that was used on this tour. "The Dark Eternal Night (N.A.D.S. which stands for North American Dream Squad) I really like the DT Logo and how each band member is animated. This is a wacky animated cartoon of the band racing out to face a huge scary monster, which is controlling them like puppets on a string. They fight and kill the monstrosity with their supersonic playing.. "The Ministry of lost Souls" animation begins with the sun going super nova and then beautiful flowers sprout from the ground. It's kind of a psychedelic assortment of spinning, dissolving imagery to back this slow-down tune. "In The Presence of Enemies Pt. 2" begins with saturated colored desert landscape, while time lapsed clouds race across the sky. Then the footage transforms into an assortment of natural geography being manipulated with multiple/mirrored imagery exposure and other visual effects. It's kind nice how the nature photography is relaxing. But as the song rocks harder the imagery corresponds accordingly. MP Stage Tour exposes us to the band's onstage setup. I learned a tremendous amount of stuff. For example, there's only two amps actually plugged in for John Petrucci's guitar, the rest are just for appearance. There is a little tent configuration for James LaBrie that Portnoy says he thinks the idea was stolen from Ozzy Osbourne. When Mike shows off John Petrucci's pedal board he says, "I don't know what the f**k it does, but he could tell you," gave me a good laugh. When we get to Jordan's World (his part of the stage) Mike says that "the keyboard world is a big gig in the world of Dream Theater." He comments "There is a whole bunch of shit up here and I have no idea what any of it does." Then Mike goes to "Drum World" which has his big metal kit and also his big experimental progressive kit, which equals to one gigantic drum kit. In MP Backstage Tour Portnoy escorts us to all the band member's set-up areas and even shows what is found in each member's wardrobe kit. It's fascinating and tells a lot about each guy. In Photo Gallery you can step thru the photos of the band taking a bow at every show across the globe. Amazing.. CHAOS IN MOTION would be a brilliant choice to give to someone this Christmas or for any other holiday you may celebrate. This is a 2-DVD set rejoices a band that is unbelievably talented, is totally humble and still looking to create music that matters.
