I really liked this movie. END OF THE LINE caught my eye
before seeing the film when I read an article in Fangoria.
What's so impressive is the super high ambition level &
creativity despite a limited resources.
Writer/Director Maurice Devereaux
does a wonderful job at setting up a creepy atmosphere of
unpredictability. You never know what's going to pop on the
screen or happen on the subway to hell. Lovecraftian monstrosities
and other denizens of the dark lurk in the subterranean world of
dark tunnels in END OF THE LINE.
A young nurse boards the last
subway train of the night only to have it stop in the middle of a tunnel.
Suddenly all hell breaks loose as a religious cult of the worst
kind has decides it's the end of the world and the only way they
can save the souls of the living is to kill them.
I would have liked to learned a
little bit more about who the cult-like congregation was and the
acting was sometimes uneven but these are two small quibbles
compared to the qualities Devereaux brings with super ambition and
creative skill.
I'm very impressed with the Special
Features Critical Mass has put together.. "A Splatter of
Faith" The Making of END OF THE LINE is an outstanding
36-minute documentary that chronicles the amazing job this
filmmaker, his cast & crew do with only a 20 day shooting
schedule and low budget. Devereaux puts his money where his
mouth is by putting his own money into the film. You've got
to respect a guy who does that. When you combine his skills
with the talented team of Special Visual Effects & Special
Make-up Effects it's a recipe for a film that belies the
limitations.
Other Features include; Fantasia
Festival Q & A, Deleted Scene: Astrology, A Message of Hope,
Complete Music Score by Martin Gauthier, Set photos and Commentary
Track with Maurice Devereaux and Martin Gauthier.
This could be the most ambitious
horror film released this year.
