Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment has done another cool thing by releasing FRIDAY THE 13th UNCUT.  The truth is there isn't much footage that was not used, something that is reinforced in the Audio Commentary by Director Sean S. Cunningham.  But it's still fun seeing added footage of some of Tom Savini's innovative gore effects and longer shots of Mrs. Vorhees that proceed two killings.  I do think the original Theatrical cut is bes$,t but I can't complain finally getting to see what was trimmed.

For my take on the FRIDAY THE 13th please read my original review that was part of the F13th Box Set that Paramount released a few years back.

Paramount has done an excellent job of putting together new features on this Deluxe Edition.  The above mentioned Audio Commentary is one of the more worthwhile tracks I've listened to over the past five years.  There's no gushing over each other like you normal find on today's latest film commentaries.  The talk is more focused on what Cunningham and his cast and crew were trying to do and how all them had no idea the film end up having the history of success that it's achieved. Peter Bracke author of the outstanding 2005 book Crystal Lake Memories, acts as the host and makes some very interesting comments about the film.  Cunningham tells it like it was as he opens his commentary saying, "In 1980, I'm trying to figure how to support my kids, my wife, my house, my rent and all that other stuff.  I make a picture called FRIDAY THE 13TH and it allowed us to keep the lights on.  It's done so much more than that.  The most important thing you can do in a film career is to make money.  Because if you make money, you can more more films and take chances."

Friday the 13th Reunion happend on September 13th, 2008.  Tom Savini, Ari Lehman, Victor Miller, Betsy Palmer, Harry Manfredini and Adrienne King from FRIDAY THE 13TH gathered together for a special reunion event.  Betsy Palmer talks about how she was cast.  Victor Miller says Sean Cunningham called him up and said, "How can we rip off HALLOWEEN."   Tom Savini said Sean Cunningham called him because he wanted the guy who did the effects in DAWN OF THE DEAD.  Harry Manfredini says he was having dinner with Sean Cunningham and he said, "I'm going to make the scariest movie ever made and your going to score it."

Fresh Cuts: New Tales from Friday The 13th gives Victor Miller the opportunity to breakdown the formula from HALLOWEEN he picked up.  Miller also says LONG NIGHT AT CAMP BLOOD was the original title of his script.  Tom Savini tells some stories from the set which are really fascinating.  Harry Manfredini says they decided early on that the music would only be whenever the killer was around.  Manfredini kept the score very tight with it's tone.

The Man Behind the Legacy: Sean S. Cunningham allows us to Sean Cunningham's beautiful house and adjoining office.  He says you can all his home "the house that Jason built."  Cunningham smartly says that today's special effects are no longer a magic show.  You can do anything you can imagine, nobody asks, "How did you do that" because the computers can do it all.  Cunningham says he remembers when they were making this movie it was cold and wet and that there was a lot of people working very hard.  Sean's son Noel Cunningham also talks how his family has worked in the industry.

Lost Tales from Camp Blood - Part 1 is a little film that utilizes the music from Friday the 13th and tries to create horror and terror along the lines of the series.

The Theatrical Trailer is also included, which is a virtual highlight reel from the movie.

FRIDAY THE 13th - UNCUT: Deluxe Edition would be an excellent addition in anyone's horror collection and for Friday fans, you won't be complete without it.
