For my previous review of this sequel check out my review of the Ultimate Edition Box Set that came out a few years back.
I've got to say that The Final Chapter has the best Special Features out of any of the Friday Movies released. Especially as far as these new Deluxe Editions go.
Audio Commentary by Joe Zito, Screenwriter Barney Cohen and Editor Joel Goodman is fun and informative. These three guys aren't afraid to joke about what each one of the did to contribute to the movie. So it's not another boring love fest where everyone praises each other to the high heavens. Each person's memories are pretty clear and detailed, which makes for an interesting listening experience. Some of the highlights are the mentioning of scenes that were never shot for a
variety of reasons. Also we hear that Writer Barney Cohen, who had not seen any F-13 films before tackling this project went to Times Square to see a marathon showing of the first three F13 films. As she was heading to go home in a cab, he realized he close his eyes during the kill scenes so he went
back and watched all three films again. Joe Zito also admits that Crispin Glover's odd dance scene was all the actor's creation. Apparently Glover had perfected this
moves performing his dance in Hollywood clubs.
Second Audio Commentary is provided by geek horror directors Joe lynch and Adam Green. Their
fondness for this movie is proclaimed in their semi serious track. They both
jump in an rattle off their love for Joe Zito's direction, Tom Savini's FX and the other components of the FINAL CHAPTER. it's mildly entertaining considering neither guys was old enough to go see the film when it was released in the Theater.
Other Special Features include: Lost Tales from Camp Blood - Part 4 this is kind of a silly short film influenced by the tone of the Friday movies but have nothing to do with the actual series.
Slashed Scenes gives us a chance to see some of the kill scenes extended but the
original soundtrack was lost so Joe Zito and Kimberly Beck give commentary for the footage that was unused. Jason's Unlucky Day: 25 Years After Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter is a cool behind the scenes
making of with current interviews with Zito, Beck, Cohen, Savini, Anderson White and a few others. I enjoyed it quite a bit to tell you the truth
We get to see The Lost Ending which was a scene that takes place the morning after everything goes down and features a dream sequence along the lines as the three films that proceeded it.
The Crystal Lake Massacres Revisited part 1 is a mockumentary that tries to create a history of Camp Crystal Lake and everything that happened there. Fun but I couldn't really take it seriously.
Jimmy's Dad Dance Moves reiterates that Crispin Glover was totally response for his memorable spastic dance as seen in the film. Original Theatrical Trailer rounds out the goodies.
Definitely worth buying for the special features alone.
