Furnace Directed

Detective Mike Turner (Michael Pare) discovers something more terrifying than the harden criminals living inside a large maximum security prison. FURNACE is a creepy little film. Director William Butler makes the most of a seasoned cast and shot the film in the atmospheric Old Tennessee State Prison (the same place Frank Darabont shot THE GREEN MILE). I like the look that he and DP Viorel Sergovici achieved and the music by Noah Sorota and Haavard Hana helped make this film spooky. Michael Pare has
still got it as an actor. At this point after all his substance abuse Tom
Sizemore is a caricature of an actor and doesn't have it anymore. Danny
Trejo is always good and I didn't realize Kelly Stables who played Evil Samara
in RING 2 was such a cutie pie. There was no way of knowing this when she
was under all the
long dark hair in that movie but in FURNACE we see what she really looks like and
she's actually believable, though a bit young as a forensics doctor. You can never go
wrong with an experienced cast working with an ambitious director, who films in
a creepy, huge old location that is actually one of the main characters in the
film.
