This is an impressive collection of horror themes. This CD has some of the all-time great films within the horror genre and some genuine surprises too. The Classics would consist of HALLOWEEN, John Carpenter's THE THING, DAWN OF THE DEAD, POLTERGEIST, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS and THE SHINING. The real surprises that made this CD really cool where the themes from Television horror shows. You get modern day shows TRUE BLOOD, HBO's TALES FROM THE CRYPT and the new OUTER LIMITS. You also get golden oldies THE ADDAMS FAMILY and THE MUNSTERS. Movie wise, I really dug the tracks off the beaten track; THE GHOST AND MR. CHICKEN, FRIGHT NIGHT, WARLOCK, PSYCHO II, Stephen King's GRAVEYARD SHIFT and TRANSYLVANIA TWIST. Plus as a big-time John Carpenter fan I was more than satisfied with the inclusion of cuts off THE FOG and CHRISTINE. Though collections like this are usually music re-created by unknown composers with usually uneven results, this group does a fine job of preserving the original quality of the music. Vocalist-actress Victoria De Mare (who also models as a witch on the CD cover/insert) really adds spunk to the disc. She sings on two of my favorite sons in this collection; "Looking For Trade" from SHOCK TREATMENT and the infamous "Tonight" from RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD. It's not often you can go one stop shopping to get a CD that captures twenty-five tracks of horror gold. HALLOWEEN HORROR HITS achieves this distinction and I encourage all of you to join in on the listening fun.
