Hammock - Longest Year

Red Eye - 2010

I could not have chosen a better CD to play in my car while driving to work on the snowy morning of February 21, 2011.  Listening to the beautiful ambience fall from the audio sky of this album, matched exactly what was happening outside.  The stillness of winter, the tranquility and quietness of snow falling was captured beautifully by the title track "Longest Year."

Hammock probes into what feels like uncharted ground in "Dark Beyond the Blue."  The cyclical blankets of mood reach out clearing a path for us to wonder.

Hammock delves into a darker area with "Cruel Sparks."  The distorted feedback, a little nasty touch, joined together with the deep bass rhythmic pattern give this a more sinister feel.

The atmosphere of "Lonely, Some Quietly Wonder in the Hall of Stars" is tangible with hope.  The music inspires you with optimism for a better future.

"One Another" is kind of a reprise of the opening title track.  Somehow the band creates a sequence of notes that take hold of time and place.  While listening to this track you will be transported to memories of your past, be totally aware of your present and awakened to the future.

The best thing I can say about Longest Year is that it will revitalize your spirit and spark positive energy into your life.  I find it heightens the way I feel about things and to me that's the strongest power music delivers.
