Music Reviews:

Jeff Greinke - Virga

Lotuspike - 2009

"Virga; Streams or wisps of precipitation falling from a cloud but evaporating before reaching the ground."  This is definition of the album title in the liner notes and is a good description of how the music plays.

Jeff Greinke has designed his composition to drift softly within the title track "Virga."  The tiny keyboard notes pitter-patter across the song like light condensation falling from the sky.

"The Wake" made me imagine ocean waves softly hitting the ocean shore.

You get the feel of something big (like a wedding or birth), a life changing event is coming while listening to "Slow Rise."  It' done with a gentle touch but still packs an emotional punch.

I found the peaceful sway of "East Facing Stone" soothing.  For some reason the instrumentation had the feel of an Asian country.

There is a brightness of life to "Contrails."  The music carries a joyfulness about it that helped make me feel good.

"Partial light" illuminates a place that will envelope you with hope.  There's something about the tone of the keyboard in this track that sounded similar to John Carpenter's score for BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA.

I felt the hugging embrace of "Old Friends."

Picking up Virga would give you 55 minutes worth of compassion, warmth and stress relief.
