I never would have thought I'd enjoy reading a book by Megadeth's founder-head honcho Dave Mustaine because he always seemed a little too angry and fueled by drugs & alcohol for my taste.  But I was wrong.

Dave Mustaine writes Mustaine: A Heavy Metal Memoir with surprising honesty, candor and a perspective that makes this book an amazingly fast read.

Mustaine goes over his troubled history leading up to becoming a member of Metallica and then what happened to cause his dismissal from that monumental band.  It was good to finally hear the details from his vantage point, which I can't imagine it being inaccurate based on the integrity qualities mentioned before.

I've read a lot of similar rock-n-roll drug & alcohol induced stories but not where the band physically fought amongst themselves because of it.

What makes this book the most interesting is the Metallica situation, then the formation and history of Megadeth, including all the members who have come and gone.

I also found it fascinating when Mustaine talks about other musicians and other bands both hard rock and metal because you learn some telling things about them in this book.

I think it was cool that when Mustaine met his wife Pam, not only did he fall for her quickly but she somehow tamed the beast raging in his soul.  There's something very good about that on a basic human level.

I haven't finished reading this book yet (I'm about two-thirds finished) but I've read enough to know that Mustaine: A Heavy Metal Memoir is one of the best books I've read in 2011.
