Review by Michael Knight This
goofy, camp movie starring the one and only Bruce Campbell provides plenty
of chuckle and snicker. Bruce plays a parody of himself, a B-movie actor
struggling to keep his name alive in Hollywood and to make a living. He
bickers with his agent for the lack of good acting roles he is offered and
for forgetting his birthday. He bickers with his ex-wife about alimony
payments. He retires for the day in a drunken stupor in his trailer park
home. Once there, he is called upon by a young fan/ admirer, Jeff, who
believes Bruce and Ashe, the character he played in the infamous Evil Dead
movies are one in the same person. It seems as though Jeff needs the
expertise of Bruce to save his hometown from an ancient Chinese, evil
spirit named Guan-Di, awakened by some young punks who disrespected an old
cemetery of 19th Century Chinese laborers. This ancient spirit
is carrying out the curse and terrorizing the town folk. Bruce, expecting
a promised B-day present from his agent, agrees to go with the kid
expecting the whole scenario is a set-up for a surprise celebration. When
it turns out the sword wielding, head chopping spirit is real, all hell
breaks loose.
