Night of the Creeps -
Limited Edition La-La Land Records – 2009 | |
|
Barry DeVorzon's score is a magical mixture of Sci-Fi horror and comedy. The music is never heavy handed and yet doesn't lose touch with keeping things suspenseful and at times serious. The tones of the keyboard are light and fluffy compared to today's bass heavy/huge sound but one of the problems with today's scores is how so many of them sound the same. NIGHT OF THE CREEPS has a distinct sound that you can easily identify and remember. The soundtrack has a running time of just over 71 minutes. The first nineteen tracks are Barry DeVorzon's music that alternates between the compositional qualities mentioned above. I also liked a track or two that captures the puppy love between the characters Chris (Jason Lively) and Cynthia (Jill Whitlow). This Limited Edition CD also has six bonus tracks. Two of them are Barry DeVorzon cues and the other four are songs used in the movie. The Platters classic "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" really sets the romantic mood. "The Stroll" by The Diamonds is a cool little shuffle that reminds me of the 50s yet fits snuggly with the 80s college atmosphere. C-Spot Run is credited for performing "Nightmares" which actually was written and sung by Martha Davis from the Motels. This tune is reminiscent of the female fronted bands of the time like Scandal and Quarterflash. Barry DeVorzon arranges the Duke Ellington song "Solitude." The CD finishes with an enlightening interview with Barry DeVorzon who talks about his contribution to the film and looks back with fond memories of the process and the result. I strongly encourage you to rush out to get this Limited Edition, especially because there is only 2,000 copies pressed.
