Because I don't consider the original NIGHT OF THE DEMONS (1988) a classic, I did have hope for this remake. Unfortunately the film didn't quite live up to my expectations. A sexy woman named Angela (Shannon Elizabeth) throws a big party in an old New Orleans mansion. The wild party gets broken up by the police and but a few friends stay behind to have some fun. Unfortunately these characters end up facing demonic spirits that inhabit the large house. The screenplay for this film is really the problem, as it's riddled with cliché situations and nothing new is brought to the table. Maybe worse is there's no atmosphere and the movie fails to be scary. The overuse of the f-word takes away from it's potency an comes across as lazy writing. Though the actresses in this film have bigger implanted boobs, as a whole it's not enough to make this film better than the original. I do have to say Bobbi Sue Luther has some pretty outrageous curves on her body.
Many of you will enjoy seeing some familiar faces like Monica Keena (FREDDY VS. JASON), Diora Bard (TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake), Edward Furlong (T2) and Shannon Elizabeth (AMERICAN PIE) who with her wicked dark eyes seems born to play the "Angela" character. The Make-up FX by Drac Studios is a bunch of people in latex masks and these demons are costumed in t-shirts and jeans, which comes across as cheap and not scary. Entertainment One has done a fine job of putting out a nice looking Blu-ray disc that does have some good special features like; Audio Commentary with Monica Keena, Bobbi Sue Luther, John F. Beach, Writer/Director Adam Dierasch and Writer Jace Anderson. This discussion sounded like a little party instead of really getting into the behind the scenes details with star Monica Keena constantly taking over the mic. Keena kept talking about herself and Edward Furlong and Bobbi Sue Luther’s boobs (who wouldn't). There's also "Behind The Bloodbath" Featurette that’s a behind-the-scenes look at the film, with on-set interviews from stars Monica Keena, Edward Furlong, Shannon Elizabeth, John F. Beach, Diora Baird, Bobbi Sue Luther, Michael Copon; writer/director Adam Gierasch; and producer Greg McKay. Pretty typical electric press kit material and too much praise and gushing about the film. Intro From Comic.con is a short little piece of co-writer/director Adam Gierasch and co-writer Jace Anderson on the floor at Comic-Con. They talk a little bit about the film, and their story. I hate to sound so harsh towards a film but after you watch this and then hear the cast & crew gush about how great a film this is, it's frustrating as a horror film viewer.
