Absolutely knock out acting with an all-star cast and superb direction.  NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH is a courtroom thriller in the tradition of the great ones from the 70s with the overall feel of a Michael Mann film.

Inspired by true events, Kate Beckinsale plays a Washington DC Reporter who faces jail sentencing after outing a CIA agent and refuses to give up her source.  Beckinsale stands tall in her conviction of portraying this strong willed woman, it's probably her most unglamorous role to date and one of her best.  Matt Dillon plays the prosecuting attorney who you love to hate.  Alan Alda is very smooth as Beckinsale's defense attorney.  The part of the head of the newspaper seems tailor made for Angela Bassett.  Vera Farmiga makes a pretty strong impression with her role and I don't think I've ever seen Noah Wyle so intense in a role.

Casting Director Mary Jo Slater must be mentioned because if she had anything to do with the winning cast, she deserves some credit.

Rod Lurie does a sensational job of keeping the focus on his cast.   The film has a nice simple visual look and Lurie keeps the camera on his actors.

Special Features include Filmmakers' Commentary, Deleted Scenes and The Truth Hurts: The Making of Nothing But The Truth which is well worth your time to learn how the cast pulled off the amazing performances and how Rod Lurie helped coax the inspired performances.

I have to be honest with you.  I didn't see the end of this movie coming and the way it play out, it give me the chills with power and emotion.  I still feel it's potency when I think of it today.

Brilliantly done.
