Grammy nominated multi-instrumentalist can add another feather in his cap as he has shot and edited this 43-minute look at Italy. Speer filmed the video in the Cinema Verite style which gives the film the feel as if it were you are there walking around each location. There's eight chapters which are made up of landmarks or events you could experience in the beautiful European location. The Pantheon's Oculus, which is the opening on top of the rotunda, sets the stage for Paul Speer to create his smooth groove and take us on trip to this far away land. We walk up the famous 139 Spanish Steps in Rome. Go inside the Pantheon (a.k.a "Temple of the Gods). We journey around Firenze. Cinque Terre is the five villages perched on the rocky coast of the Italian Riviera which are connected by a trail. I recognized this location from movies I've seen shot there. Get a chance to see the Festival in Terrasini. Driving down the Mediterranean Highway gives you the opportunity to see what it would be like to travel by car in that part of the world. The scenic village of Portofino inspires Speer to have an Alfred Hitchcock moment. Speer ends this DVD, as he did on his trip to Italy as we see the Tuscan Sunset Speer doesn't force any unnecessary sounds on the locations, but rather grabs warm tones that make you wish you were there. I've never been to this wonderful country, though my wife's heritage originated there. So for me, this was a very nice way to enjoy a place I may never get the chance to experience in person. Speer has released his calming atmospheric music also on CD and you can purchase both through his website. I recommend picking up either or both releases to bring some serenity into your busy life.
