Piranha 3D -
Music by Michael Wandmacher

La La Land Records – 2010

Michael Wandmacher does not play around. This composer has created some of the best scores for horror films over the past five years. Ever since CRY WOLF, he's consistently been making music that has the highest fidelity of sound, usually incorporating orchestra and electronics with equal measure.

From the first cue "Whirlpool" until the twenty-sixth "End Titles," PIRANHA 3D delivers the goods.

Strings scream and spin like a tornado in "Whirlpool," as Richard Dreyfuss' character suffers the result of the earthquake in the film. I have to admit that Alexandre Aja's tip of the hat to JAWS was cool and funny.

"Piranha" is one of my favorite tracks because it's creepy and somewhat subdued.

The wailing, crying brass at the end of "Empty Boat" is just wicked nasty.

Strings and brass join to inflict the deadly "Pack Attack." The many layers of orchestra move together to put the bite down.

A full scale war is engaged between "Marina Attack Part 1 & Part 2." You will be able to visualize humans going head to toe versus the prehistoric fish. Explosive, bombastic and loads of fun.

I like the way the music literally circles you while you experience "Seasick."

Wandmacher's distorted electric guitar is a nice touch in "Massacred."

The muted guitar or maybe bass gives "Rescued" a totally different feel.

The sand paper rough, squished football shaped killing machines come at you with an "Army of Teeth." The brass heroics of the humans tether against the dangerous strings under the water.

Wandmacher amps up tension with screaming notes that sound like guitar in "Blood and Sand."

I love the big dark bass note that hits as we walk the "Tightrope." The strings slash at us and you can feel the deadly sea of flesh devouring fish waiting below.

"Bait" is composed in a way that you sense something has been left to attract the danger towards us.

Tension has disappeared giving you a chance to "Breathe."

Electric guitar and orchestra rock "End Titles." A fitting way for this entertaining movie to finish.
