Screamers
- The Hunting Starring:

Review by Michael Knight ‘Screamers - The Hunting’ is a Sci-fi /action movie with a solid element of horror. While the movie doesn’t really offer anything new to its genre - the special FX, sets, and scenery are exceptional. Also, there is lots of fast-paced action, gore and violence which kept my attention through the whole movie. A colony planet, Sirius
6b, is overrun by killing machines called screamers. Screamers are little
robot balls (think phantasm ball on steroids) that move underground
seeking out life forms. When they find a life form (aka. Humans), they pop
out of the ground at furious speeds and slice & dice anything that
moves. These machines had exterminated the human populous that occupied
the colony planet. Now, a decade later, a distress call is received from
Sirius 6b. A task force is
dispatched to the planet on a search and rescue mission. What they find is
- those little robot screamers have evolved into something quite
extraordinary. Considering all the
low-budget sci-fi rubbish that comes out every year, Screamers - The
Hunting is a decent film. Ever since CGI became more affordable dozens of
movies are made with bad CGI effects and cookie cutter plots that are not
even worth watching. If there was CGI in ‘Screamers - The Hunting‘, it
was not an eyesore and goes relatively unnoticed - which is a good thing.
The plot, while not wholly original, does keep you attentive to the film.
Most of the story-line is familiar. We had seen similar ideas before in
films like Aliens and Pitch Black, but there are a few wrinkles that pop
up here and there. One of the best parts of
‘Screamers - The Hunting’ are the very gory and violent attacks on
humans by the advanced screamers. The blood, guts, and gore all look quite
realistic and show a lot of detail. The second major feature of this film
is the small but well played part by Lance Henriksen. Although the acting
for the most part was good throughout the entire film, Lance Henriksen
raises the bar as only a seasoned veteran actor like himself can do.
Overall, I would say ‘Screamers - The Hunting’ is a decent sci-fi
/action movie that is worth a look.
