Review by Mike Porciello

The air is full of soot and disease, as the streets of London are depicted as one skid-row after the next, in this 1982 classic from RKO/Nederlander. "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street", stars
Angela Lansbury ( Murder she Wrote), and George Hearn. Lansbury, who I always thought bears a striking resemblance to my 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Bolles, plays Nellie the pie maker, like that of a hissy alley cat; quite uncharacteristic of a lady of elegance, but nonetheless delivers her vibrant, serenading siren and grandeur performance, with a larger than life scale. Barrel chested Hearn (Todd) will fill not only the darkest
corner of the theater with his robust baritone, but will also bludgeon a battle wound upon your soul, with his commanding presence!

Benjamin Barber, now going by name of Sweeney Todd, has returned after a 15 year banishment to prison colony Australia. Upon his return to smoky downtown London, he finds his barber shop almost the way he left it, in this macabre, tragic tale of love and revenge. Nellie, seduced by his flair, becomes his accomplice, as he lays waste to those who have wronged him, and even those who have not! Automatically, Nellie's pies become legend, as the secret is in the meat!

At first, I really thought I would need some industrial grade Galvanized wire, and Anchor Bolts to affix me to the chair, but before I knew it, I couldn't wait to see what happens next! The nearly 2 hours and 20 minutes
flew by like magic. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, a bit vile and risqué, will shock you, as it entertains you! Pick it up if you dare! How would you like your throat cut? A little to the left? To the
right? It's up to you, you tell me!
