Unfortunately ALL SOULS DAY is not a very good film. Right from the get go, scenes run without true direction, actors look lost and the movie needs to be tightened in almost every scene. There is no sense of believability, the physical action is stiff and the acting runs over the top or there is not enough of it.

In the remote Mexican village of Santa Bonita in 1892 a tragedy occurs that nearly wipes out the whole town. In 1952, a family on a road trip stops in Santa Bonita and meets a their death. Flash-forward another 53 years, a young couple (Marisa Ramirez and Travis Wester) travels through the town during a celebration of the Day of the Dead and get into a car accident. The town doesn’t have a mechanic so they’re stranded.

This leads to the young couple and their friends, finding out the ugly truth of Santa Bonita. A girl must be sacrificed on the Day of the Dead to keep the dead in the ground.

The direction in this movie is weak and is what ultimately hurts ALL SOULS DAY the most. The acting wasn’t up to par; even the normally excellent Danny Trejo looks uncomfortable and somewhat lost.

Anchor Bay does their normal exceptional job of giving the movie all sorts of supplements and a 16x9 Widescreen Presentation. The featurettes; Raising The Undead: The Making Of ALL SOULS DAY, Faces Of Death: The Make-Up Effects Of ALL SOULS DAY, Jailhouse Rock: The Stunts Of ALL SOULS DAY will inform you more than you’ll probably ever want to know about this film. There is also Audio Commentary with Director Jeremy Kasten and Producer Mark A. Altman. Storyboard Gallery, Extended Scene, Deleted Scene, Trailer and Screenplay (DVD-ROM) round out the extras.

I cannot truly recommend this movie, which is the first time in all my years of covering Anchor Bay Entertainment DVD releases. I don’t blame ABE for the film as they have done their part to present it to you in the best way possible and loaded it with lots extras.
