Badi & Jeff Nowhere.jpg (10217 bytes) Badi Assad & Jeff Young – Nowhere
WaterSongs Music – 2002

This CD sounds like a live recording from a coffee house/bookstore. It is that intimate and features that kind of raw spark. Badi Assad sings most songs in Portuguese but does a few in the English language. Jeff Young is a brilliant guitar player that has unlimited vision with the instrument. For those who don’t recognize his name, Jeff was the lead guitarist on Megadeth album So Far, So Good…So What! Which in my opinion featured the most memorable lead guitar playing on any Megadeth album.

"Calling Jupiter" is an aggressive acoustic track that will throw you off with Badi Assad’s exotic vocals and the relentless guitar attack from Jeff Young. The dark, ominous chords Young plays are quite extraordinary in the acoustic environment. Assad’s vocals stir up a hornet’s nest as she just lets it fly." The second track "Infin8" is sung in Portuguese.

"Spirit Dog" really grows on you the more you listen to this CD. The classical and flamenco guitars intertwine to make this a very pleasant experience. Jeff Young gives his touching flamenco interpretation "Tranta Por Drea" which comes from a study by Paco Serrano. Young plays a passionate flamenco guitar in "Unraveling."

Badi Assad’s mouth percussion and kisses in "Angelina" are wild and gel perfectly with Young’s assertive flamenco guitar. Assad and Young create a ton of energy in this sixth track. Assad has nice vocal chemistry with male vocalist Lenine in "Entrelace."

In "Solais" Assad nearly turns herself into an atmospheric processor by using her mouth to create wind, reptile sounds, mouth-face-nose-throat percussion and various voices. Young backs her with moody and blistering acoustic guitar. Badi collaborates with classical guitar family members Sergio Assad and Odair Assad in "O Que E Eterno?"

Passion nearly drips from "Liquid Voices" and has a short but sweet solo from Young. Badi Assad goes off with her mouth percussion "Nao Adianta" and Young underlines it on guitar. The saxophone solo from Carlos Malta is a nice touch. Young and Assad experiment with all sorts of little sounds in "Cidade Do Sol." They work like two scientists testing the reaches of their respective instruments.

Badi Assad uses her voice and tempered guitar to create "The Being Between."

NOWHERE is made with zest and would sound great in your stereo or CD player.
