Bryan Adams – Anthology

UMe – 2005

36 Tracks with more than half qualified as radio or music video hits. I can’t think of why this double CD wouldn’t satisfy most listeners. Most of the songs are recognizable, while the others performed and produced the way Bryan Adams is known for. The one thing I realized while listening to this excellent CD was that Bryan Adams and his producer Bob Clearmountain must have helped create the power ballads that become so prevalent in the 1980s. Adams isn’t recognized as a hard rocker, but that doesn’t matter. If you listen to the way his songs are constructed and the elements of guitar, drums and bass, it’s easy to see how his hit songs affected the radio and music videos alike.

My favorite songs off the Disc One included: "Straight From The Heart," "Cuts Like A Knife," "Run To You" (which always makes me think back to seeing the music video while in the Army in West Germany), "Heaven" (a ballad before Warrant recorded a song with the same title), "Thought I’d Died and Gone To Heaven" which has Def Leppard backing type vocals and I wasn’t surprised to see that Matt Lunge wrote & produced this tune.

The second disc had some interesting guest stars; Sting and Rod Stewart join in "All For Love," "Rock Steady" – live with Bonnie Raitt and "When You’re Gone" with Pamela Anderson. My favorite tracks off the second disk are: "Please Forgive me," "All For Love," "Have You Ever Loved A Woman," "Let’s Make A Night To Remember," "Cloud Number Nine" – Chicane Mix.

Bryan Adams has more songs played on the Radio than most artists could dream of. You’ll get most of those with this 2-CD Collection.
