Buckethead Electric Tears Meta Records - 2002 |
|
| Wow,
Electric Tears features absolutely beautiful composition. This is a tour de force in mood
and atmosphere. "All in The Waiting" ha super clean acoustic guitar that is
serene and joyful. Buckethead goes Flamenco acoustic in "Sketches of Spain"
which will mesmerize you with melody. The electric lead parts show Bucketheads deft
touch at holding notes and his stunning vibrato. The dark, spiraling acoustic rhythm in "Padmasana" had all the hairs standing up on my body. It has cinematic ambiance. Clocking in at 11 minutes and 36 seconds, it is an epic mood piece. Buckethead pours his heart into the gorgeous lead parts that fully embellish the track. It made me think of a re-curing nightmare that you want to keep having. Bucket grabs contorted distortion and rides it for all its worth in "Mustang." He tells another story in "The Way to Heaven." Its fascinating following the rhythm pattern, but its the lead parts that will leave your mouth gaping in astonishment. Bucketheads guitar vocabulary is expanding, maturing and puts him in a class by himself. I got a big smile listening to "Baptism of Solitude" which gives Neal Schon a run for his money in emotional soloing. "Datura" escorts the cool feel of John Carpenters Assault On Precinct 13. The dark, distorted rhythm grabbed my soul. The lead parts explode with expression. The quick rhythm taking over just over three minutes in made me think of the fantastic horror films from the late 70s. Damn, this is awesome music. "Mantaray" flies through an ocean of pretty notes and a single stroke acoustic guitar. Bucket is a master at picking the right spots to speed up, slow down or just blow-up. He will whisper notes and then suddenly scream out with notes blurred with the tremolo bar or wah-wah pedal. Buckethead jazzes up "Witches On The Heath" in a sinister way. "Angel Monster" is a lovely acoustic-electric tune. Im haunted and hypnotized by the title track "Electric Tears." The long spaces between echoed notes flattened me. Buckethead wraps the album gently in Celtic-Flamenco tinged "Spell of the Gypsies." I give this album my highest rating. Its something you will play over and over again. |
