Cheerleader Camp
Anchor Bay – 1987

Directed by John Quinn

Starring
Betsy Russell
Leif Garrett
Lucinda Dickey
Lorie Griffin

A bunch of cheerleader teams get together to compete at a camp nestled deep in the Sequoia National Forest. While attending camp activities people start to get eliminated from the competition and life altogether. The scenery is beautiful, in more ways than one but the storyline has been done to death.

The tonality of the film is to put comedy first and accent it with a touch of gore. The reason you would want to see this film is to see some familiar faces (or should I say bodies) Betsy (PRIVATE SCHOOL, AVENGING ANGEL) Russell, Leif (late 70’-80’s heartthrob) Garrett, Lucinda (BREAKIN’, BREAKIN’ 2 ELECTRIC BUGALOO, NINJA III: DOMINATION) Dickey and John Carpenter regular George ‘Buck’ Flower.

If you feel like watching something that doesn’t require you to be mentally challenged or you feel like watching a harmless little slasher-comedy than CHEERLEADER CAMP would fit the bill. It was successful enough to spur a sequel and Anchor Bay does their part to present this as professionally possible. The picture quality is clean and there is clear Dolby Digital mono soundtrack.

Special Features include an audio commentary by producer/director John Quinn and co-producer Jeff Prettyman. These guys cover the film from pre-production to completion. Any fan of the movie would enjoy their anecdotes.

Anchor Bay has also included three trailers, two of them under the film other’s title BLOODY POM POMS. Two photo galleries represent; 1) posters & production and 2) behind the scenes.
