A theater troupe travels by boat to a small island for buried criminals.  Alan (Alan Ormsby) begins a séance to raise the dead.  What first was suppose to be a prank to scare everyone, ends up working for real and soon the group of college actors must take refuge in an old abandoned house to fight for lives against the onslaught of flesh eating dead.

Made a really tiny budget 35 years ago in the Miami, Florida area, the late Writer/Director Bob Clark makes the most of limited means and pulls off the first of what would be four impressionable horror films in the 1970s.  Clark uses the exotic southern Florida locations and Alan Ormsby’s Special Make-up ability to pull off a neat little film.

The acting goes way over the top with Alan Ormsby responsible for a good portion of it.  But the setup is cool and Clark does build the film towards the somewhat hair-raising climax.

VCI Entertainment gets applause for putting out this new edition with includes a digitally restored all New Film Transfer.  VCI also put in the effort to make the Features special.  There is an all new Commentary from Alan Ormsby, Jane Daly and Anya Cronin.  Memories of Bob Clark is fitting Tribute to the late Director.  Grindhouse Q & A is from a recent showing of the film in Los Angeles, where cast & crew answer questions about making the film.  Also included are Confessions of A Grave Digger, Photo Gallery, two Music Videos: “Dead Girls Don’t Say No” and “Cemetery Mary” by The Deadthings.  There is also a Tribute Video to CSPwDT from Freak 11.  CSPwDT Trivia, Alan Ormsby Bio and Original Theatrical Trailer.

Clark would go on to improve his craft with each succeeding film, but CHILDREN SHOULDN’T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS is what got him his start and should be appreciated as one of the early genre films that got things rolling in the right direction.
