La-La Land Records -2003

It’s about time CREEPSHOW became available on Compact Disc. John Harrison’s score is something I’ve cherished since it first came out on LP in 1982. For those of you who haven’t heard it yet, you are in for a real treat.

John Harrison’s music fuses a diverse collection of musical styles to help tell the four stories from the movie. "Father’s Day" features old style piano playing mixed with modern day keyboard lines that scream the macabre. For "The Lonesome Death of Jody Verrill" Harrison chooses odd, eccentric keyboard tonality & textures that bring a sci-fi touch CREEPSHOW. The melodic piano melody of "Something To Tide You Over" is almost John Carpenter like. "The Crate" has to be the best of the bunch. In this tale, Harrison plays beautiful piano over gyrating keyboards to give the nostalgic feel of an old time story that has survived for ages (like the creature in the box). "They’re Creeping Up On You" will get under the skin of any listener. You almost feel bugs crawling all over you as Harrison morphs the keyboard and piano to eerie effect. The "Prologue" and "Epilogue" parts bring the five stories together as one complete audio presentation. This score is underrated in my opinion and should be revered by all soundtrack enthusiasts.

As a bonus, La-La Land Records have included cuts from three other projects John Harrison scored; TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE (TFTD), MANSIONS OF THE MOON and SHOOBIE DOOBIE MOON. The first track from TFTD "Satanic Piano" has similar sound to DAY OF THE DEAD, which Harrison scored also. George Romero had planned on making a space opera called MANSIONS OF THE MOON which never came to fruition, but you can hear the way the film might have sounded with this sci-fi synthesized overture. There are two tracks from another Romero project that never got off the ground called SHOOBIE DOOBIE MOON, which has a whimsical, almost GREASE feel to what was suppose to be a 50’s teen alien movie.

John Harrison, George Romero and Randall D. Larson provide the informative linear notes. La-La Land continues their stellar CD presentation process with CREEPSHOW.
