Dead and Breakfast Anchor Bay Entertainment 2005 Written
and Directed by Matthew Leutwyler |
|
| I had a blast
watching this gory, funny film. Six friends take a road trip for a wedding in Galveston,
Texas and stop for the night at a quaint bed and breakfast in the sleepy Texas town called
Lovelock. The next morning the owner (David Carradine) and his chef (Diedrich Bader) are
found dead. This brings the Sheriff (Jeffery Dean Morgan) onto the scene who immediately
looks to the group as suspects. Things turn crazy when the residents of the town become
possessed by an evil spirit and trap the friends at the bed & breakfast. The friends
must band together using creative weapons and the help of the sheriff to try and stop the
ghoulish onslaught. The film is constructed like a cross between NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and THERES SOMETHING ABOUT MARY. Noted songwriter Zach Selwyn provides laugh out loud songs throughout the film similar in the way the Farrelly Brothers used musicians within THERES SOMETHING ABOUT MARY performing their own songs. Some have called this film the U.S. answer to SHAUN OF THE DEAD and thats pretty accurate. Humor and gore are Matthew Leutwylers focus and he does an outrageous job pulling it off. The "Ghoul Line Dance" is hysterical and is this movies highlight. Anchor Bay does it again giving this DVD supplements that include: Audio Commentary with Writer/Director Matthew Leutwyler, Special Effects Supervisor Michael Mosher and Actor Erik Palladino and Songwriter Zach Selwyn. These guys each speak out about their part in making the film and this is nearly as fun to listen to as watching the movie. The second Audio Commentary features Leutwyler with Actors Ever Carradine, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Erik Palladino and Oz Perkins. Also Deleted & Extended Scenes were worth watching but didnt hurt the film being removed. Bloopers, Trailers and Poster/Still Gallery round out the extras. One of wildest DVD releases of the year. DEAD AND BREAKFAST would be perfect to play this Halloween. You couldnt do much better to entertain a crowd than this spastic, amusing gore film. |
