Dead Silence – Music by Charlie Clouser Lakeshore
Records – 2008

The rock band Aiden contributes the first track “We Sleep Forever.” I liked this tune more than I expected. Charlie Clouser has put together a score that is super catchy and totally listenable. DEAD SILENCE has a “Main” theme that Clouser plays at different speeds and sonic variations that standout out as a soundtrack you will want to play over and over. It’s amazing how different the same notes can sound at fast and slow speeds. “Main Titles” sets the table with the cool, creepy intense main notes played on strings, piano, toy-box instrument and the rest of the orchestral renderings. “Blood” is more ambient with touches of piano and dark voices on the bottom. The sound is huge and pulsates with creepiness. In “Apartment” the low-splashing percussion elements work nicely with the big strings. The main theme is played at supercharged speed in “Raven’s Fair” which is more cool than scary. But then the theme slows down with the spooky voices. The vibrating, shaking sound the instrumentation in “Motel hearse” is very cool and clever. The low underside of the strings is scary. I dare you to look (listen) into “Coffin.” Once you open the lid you are drawn into what’s inside and then Clouser slams the door on you and you are stuck with the terror inside. Clouser rounds the CD down with “Dummy” which will raise the hairs on your body and tempt you to play the CD again. I was not a very big fan of the band Nine Inch Nails, which Clouser was part of, but I’m becoming a huge fan of Charlie Clouser’s film scoring. DEAD SILENCE has thirty tracks of terror that is way better than you could ever imagine. I'd get this CD without a second thought.
