Band works his usual magic with the orchestra but adds a multi-dimensional touch with synthesized bell samples. This score is very different sounding than RE-ANIMATOR, which had an almost comic feel at times. FROM BEYOND is always serious and quite often ambient. You get the impression through his wonderful composition that he was experimenting along the lines of Dr. Pretorius. Band uses strings to carry most of the score but highlights key moments with dynamic percussion and electronic re-enforcement. My favorite parts of the score are the suspenseful moments which are intense and memorable.

This is the first CD I’ve heard from La-La Land Records and I can’t help but be impressed. Not only have they picked a deserving score to finally be released on CD, but the CD art and packaging are terrific. The linear note booklet is packed with cool photos and comments from Stuart Gordon, Richard Band and soundtrack expert Randall D. Larson. I also loved how La-La Land included the Composer Filmography, which is located underneath the CD holder. Plain and simple, La-La Land Records delivers the goods.
