George Winston: Gulf Coast Blues & Impressions – A Hurricane Relief Benefit

Windham Hill – 2006

George Winston is easily one of my favorite musicians.  He usually puts together albums that have some sort of inspiration for him, in most cases this comes from something natural or from nature.

Gulf Coast Blues & Impressions is George Winston's response to the massive natural disaster that was Hurricane Katrina.  Wanting to do something about it, he’s created a soulful terrain of solo piano that captures the essence of the Deep South area and it’s musical origins.

All of the artist’s proceeds from this album will go directly to the Dancing Cat Benefit Fund to be distributed to the organizations helping people on the Gulf Coast and in New Orleans.  RCA Records will be donating the bulk of its net projects to befit musicians in the New Orleans area.

My favorite tracks off the CD are the playful “Pixie” and a stirring rendition of “When The Saints Go Marching In.”

You’ll enjoy listening to the ten tracks Winston has recorded that will help benefit those who were tragically blindsided by the massive storm that hit the Mississippi gulf region on August 29, 2005.  An estimated 15 million people were affected by this storm; 400,000 lost jobs and 1,836 lost their lives.
