All hype and no substance.  I don't mean to be mean or anything but this film does not live up to all the praise proclaimed on the DVD box cover.  I certainly understand trying to market a film and Anchor Bay is one of the best DVD horror companies ever at doing this, but this isn't a classic or even a good horror film anyway you slice it.

The storyline, which was much better done in VENOM (2005) is about a bunch of stereo type, stock characters being knocked off by a faceless, cardboard cutout of a villain named Victor Crowley.

The movie does have some fantastic Louisiana locations and some decent make-up effects by John Carl Buechler & Magical Media Industries.

Anchor Bay does their part including a bunch of Features: Audio Commentary with Writer/Director Adam Green, Cinematographer Will Barratt and Actors Tamara Feldman, Joel David Moore and Deon Richmond.  The Making of HATCHET and the film's Trailer.

I wasn't really fond of the cast (I can never figure out the attraction to Kane Hodder, I think there are at least four guys who were better at playing Jason Vorhees) and my biggest problem was that the film feels like it was made by a fan boy rather than a serious filmmaker with a vision.
