Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio, the band changed the name to Heaven & Hell
(named after the first BS album with Dio) return after 17-year hiatus. These guys pick right up where they left with
Dehumanizer. "Atom and Evil" is a dark energetic tune that opens this fantastic album. Ronnie James Dio is back in prime form, Vinny Appice's deliberate drum beat is perfect. I like how Tony Iommi picks the main rhythm.
Appice and Geezer Butler set up "Fear" with catchy pattern and then Dio & Iommi bring their respective powers to the second track.
"Bible Black" is a rousing song driven by Geezer's amazing bass and Appice's drumming. Dio and Iommi go off and
embellish the tune.
You can feel death and destruction coming in "Double The Pain." I like how Iommi's riffs are played with just the right amount of space between them. Geezer's bass is
sinister.
Speaking of riffs, the main one in "Rock and Roll Angel" kicks ass! The bluesy solo from Iommi is real tasty and done with expert feel.
Appice drums one of his trademark beats in "The Turn of the Screw" and Dio story tells the tune.
The pace and intensity of "Eating The Cannibals" is like a quick sprint. Ripping , fast and fun is the seventh track.
Iommi's beginning riff in "Follow the Tears" is massive and powerful. It tears into you like wheel
treads from a tank and your head will fall into the groove. One of the heaviest
songs off this disc and one of the highlights.
Mysterious & gloomy the music in the beginning of "Breaking Into Heaven" sounds
like you are traveling to the opposite destination. I have to mention Dio, Iommi and Butler do a
sensational job producing this album. It sounds fresh and classic at the same time.
Heaven and Hell have created a potent mix of songs that equal up to a rocking album that
probably is their best since THE MOB RULES.
