Joe Satriani - Surfing With The Alien: 20th Anniversary Edition Epic/Legacy – 2007 | |
|
Twenty years and fifteen albums later Joe Satriani is unequivably the master guitarist of the past two decades. From the looks of things, this 20th Anniversary Edition 2-CD set, he doesn’t intend on resting on his laurels or slowing down. Satriani groundbreaking release is here in all its glory. Rocking “Ice 9,” emotional satisfying “Always With Me, Always With You” (my wife’s favorite), his signature “Satch Boogie,” atmospheric “Circles” and the moody “Echo.” The 20th Anniversary Edition always comes with Disc Two – DVD: Previously Unreleased Concert: Montreux Jazz Festival, July 15, 1988. This is the entire Surfing album performed live plus a Stu Hamm Bass Solo. It’s great to see how Satch began his persona, look and musical feel, also you can see his development since this early show. I’d be surprised if most if you didn’t already own the original Surfing CD pressing. If you do you, you certainly wouldn’t mind adding this special edition with an excellent early performance of the guitarist we like to call the Silver Surfer.
