Joe Satriani - LIVE! Epic - 2006 | |

From the gorgeous guitar intro of "Flying In A Blue Dream" to Joe's signature "Summer Song" this LIVE DVD is a powerhouse of 5.1 Surround Sound and High Definition imagery. On Disc 1 Satch performs nineteen of his best tracks LIVE at Anaheim, California, on May 2, 2006 shot in Hi-Def. For some reason I think "The Extremist" has gotten better with age since the title track first was released on the 1992 album. "Cool #9" has always been one of my favorites and live, the slow bluesy feel opens the opportunity for Joe to get groovy, especially in the beginning of the tune. The thickness of the riff in "Super Colossal" is powerful. The guitar tonality is just plain pretty in "The Meaning Of Love." Jeff Campitelli's drums in "Made Of Tears" is infectious and makes it easy for Joe to release his passion. "Always With me, Always With You" will always make me think of my wife Paula. The first disc also includes the Bonus Features: Super Colossal: In The Studio, In Rehearsal, On Tour and Music Video. I got a real kick seeing how Joe put together this album and was very impressed, especially with seeing all the people who added "Crowd Chant" track, this included Canada's top axeman David Martone. Disc 2 is Flying In A Blue Dream: Joe Satriani India Tour, May 2005. This documentary is eye opening because you see what the fans have to go through to attend the LIVE show. There is military soldiers standing guard all around the venue and you can see that the area is not too far from poverty level. I give Satriani and his band a lot of credit for playing there and allowing us to experience what it is like. It says a lot about their character and desire to reach everyone with their music. Maybe more important you see how important the Silver Surfer guitarist's music is to those people. Bonus Features on the second DVD include: European Tour Footage, Podcasts and Slide Show. This is a superb DVD with award-winning level camera images, editing and sound. Awesome may not be a good enough word to describe it's potency.
