King Kong
Music by James Newton Howard Decca Records 2006 |
|
| Peter Jackson is very fortunate to be able to
switch from Howard Shore to another composer of the same quality in James Newton Howard.
KING KONG has a massively regal epic sounding score that never loses the soft sensitivity
of the beast himself. The album goes back and forth between the very tender moments from the film to the large action sequences scattered throughout. Its amazing, but you can actually feel Kongs love for Ann Darrow (Naomi Watts). While listening to "Its Deserted", the sense of mystery surrounding Skull Island is represented through Howards suspenseful cue. NYC before ("Defeat is Always Momentary") and after Kong is captured ("Central Park" and "The Empire State Building") is brought to life through orchestral composition. You almost feel like youre back in the 1930s dodging through Manhattan. The most memorable tracks off the CD include "Tooth and Claw", a 6 minute action cue with the orchestra representing the multiple T-Rexes attacking Kong while the great ape tries to protect Ms Darrow, and "Beauty Killed the Beast" parts I through V, for their stunning brass and dynamic twists through the duration. KING KONGs score runs over 1 hour, and comes with a colorful photo foldout with selected images from the film. You would be wise to pick up a copy of KING KONG, the official soundtrack. |
