Mirrors – Music by Javier Navarrete

Lakeshore Records – 2008

Javier Navarrete's score for Alexandra Aja's latest film MIRRORS is an diverse score because it combines the type of horror music that we've come to expect in today's cinema but mixed with melodic orchestral patterns that you would normally find in a drama.

"Asturias/Main Titles" has a give and take flow that I could hear being used in a sporting event.  "Angela's Death" is just vicious orchestral composition.  "Asturias/Investigation" brings back the theme established with the main titles but used with a more frantic pace.

The audio recording and engineering of "The Mirrors Room" is beautiful and scary at the same time.  The high & low peak & valley register is very impressive and sounds amazing.

Blaring brass and high wire strings are what makes "Possession" frightening.  The horns in "Escape" has an action feel surrounded by tense strings that perform a quick JAWS-type rhythm towards the end of the cue.

"Srorrim" is one of the softer tracks and gives the score some warmth before the end which gets dark and twists into nasty screeching violins. "Asturias/In The Mirror" brings the score full circle.

The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra is used in MIRRORS and they are able to perform combo of quiet tension and aggressive orchestration.
