This soundtrack sounds like a natural extension of what Midnight Syndicate has been developing over the past decade. Creepy atmosphere, with melodic elements of piano and other orchestral touches, I was immediately drawn into the mood of the album and where the music took me. What's really great about these guy's music is that it could virtually fit any type of Halloween medium. I could not only hear it in a movie but I could visualize it playing at a haunted attraction and I could hear it as background music while reading a scary story. It just fits for this time of year. I like the patient aspect the music has to it. By that I mean nothing is rushed and squashed together but rather the composition is allowed to run its full course building up to a gradual climax. My favorite tracks off the CD are: "Nightfall" which has the air of a full moon over a night sky with all sorts of spooky things happening beneath it. In "Across the Chasm" you literally can hear the dead shuffling about. "Cemetery Gates" has the huge touch of THE FOG in the way the piano is played with moody wind blowing in the back of the mix. I love the audio sound in "Forging the Scarab," which has the feel of the Legendary Jerry Goldsmith. "Exodus" is pretty intense and suspenseful. The three bonus tracks from Gavin Goszka are Depeche Mode-like vocal tunes with the keyboard and guitar backing Goszka's vocal work. Even the A.B.T. Remix of the Theme for "The Dead Matter" is juicy with electronic pumping bass, fluttering active keyboard lines, percussion to make it danceable. The Dead Matter - Cemetery Gates has 18 tracks with 3 bonus tracks to add to the pleasure. Definitely worth every penny.
