Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) and Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott) are studying at the Miskatonic University. West needs a place to live so Cain invites him to check out the room that he & his girlfriend Megan Halsey (Barbara Crampton) are renting out. West decides to take it and shortly there after introduces Cain to his formula for the re-animation of fresh corpses. But things don’t work out exactly what is planned and the use of re-animation gets out of West’s control. Soon heads begin to roll… This is a wildly funny and gory interpretation of H.P. Lovecraft’s RE-ANIMATOR. Stuart Gordon is the perfect filmmaker to adapt this work and to bring it to the screen with justice. Gordon may have made more sophisticated films in his career but this is the one he will always been known for. Gordon takes the material seriously, including the comedy, as he plays it straight and allows the audience to laugh on their own. The cast is uniformly good with Bruce Abbott a good choice for the straight laced Dan Cain. Herbert West is gleefully brought to live by Jeffrey Combs in a career highlighting performance. David Gale is unforgettable as Dr. Carl Hill. Who can ever forget the scenes with his bodyless head doing all sorts of things in the movie? Barbara Crampton leaves an quite an impression. Richard Band contributes a very memorable score that has a nice old fashioned feel and Mac Ahlberg’s cinematography is solid. The special features put together by Anchor Bay are simply amazing. Disc One features 2 Audio Commentaries: one with Director Stuart Gordon. The other has Producer Brian Yuzna and Actors Bruce Abbott, Jeffrey Combs, Barbara Crampton and Robert Sampson. Disc Two has a new 70-Minute featurette: RE-ANIMATOR RESURRECTS which is excellent and sheds light on the film from interviews with cast and crew from brand new interviews. You can watch individual Interviews with Start Gordon and Brian Yuzna, Dennis Paoli, Richard Band. There is Music Discussion with Composer Richard Band. An interview with Fangoria Editor Tony Timpone. Deleted Scene, Extended Scenes, Trailer, TV Spots, Stills Gallery, Behind-The-Scenes Still Gallery, Posters, Storyboards, Bio and Screenplay. RE-ANIMATOR is a true classic that is sure to tickle your funny bone, make you whince at some gruesome horror imagery and definitely entertain you for 86 minutes. It’s a blast to watch. | ||
