The Seduction

Written and Directed by David Schmoeller

Starring
Morgan Fairchild
Michel Sarrazin
Vince Edwards
Andrew Stevens
Colleen Camp
Kevin Brophy

L.A. anchorwoman Jamie Douglas (Morgan Fairchild in her memorable big screen debut) has everything going for her; a successful, glamorous career on a top-rated new show, a beautiful home in the hills and a devoted young admirer named Derek (Andrew Stevens). But as Derek’s lust for Jamie gets stronger, he becomes an obsessed stalker who tries to live out his fantasy. Jamie doesn’t go for this psychotic courtship, which leads to a violent end.

It’s amazing that I never saw this film in my formative years but this DVD finally gave me a chance to experience THE SEDUCTION. It’s surprisingly low-key and definitely works as stalk & slash film. Morgan Fairchild is certainly gorgeous and she’s better than I expected as an actress. Andrew Stevens leaves an impression as the twisted devotee who won’t stop until he has the woman of his dreams. I give a lot of credit to Producers Irwin (HALLOWEEN) Yablans and Bruce Cohn Curtis (who worked together on HELL NIGHT) for assembling a first-class cast and production. Getting Michael Sarrazin, Vince Edwards and Kevin Brophy definitely elevated the picture.

Music by Lalo Schifrin certainly played a part in the movie’s ability to create suspense and eroticism.

I was really happy to watch the Extras included with this DVD. There are three Featurettes: Remembering THE SEDUCTION, Remembering The Locations and Production and THE SEDUCTION and the Law. This is the type of film that deserves this kind of attention because it’s a film that is over 20-years old, is very well made and probably has a dedicated audience. The Audio Commentary with Producers Irwin Yablans, Bruce Cohn Curtis and Writer/Director David Schmoeller was very engaging because between the three gentlemen, they bring up a large list of details of how the film was made. The Trailer rounds out the supplements.

THE SEDUCTION is a luscious erotic thriller.
