I think the Hollywood Studio System’s performance of Howard’s composition is awe-inspiring. If you listen closely to all the instruments and the different directions each instrument is going, you will be impressed. The separation of each component is mixed to individually stand out, yet is completely part of Howard’s whole sonic arsenal. The deep low bass parts are strong. Brass is used to incase overall mood and suspense. Clarinets, flutes oboes, bassoon are simply gorgeous and lead much of this score. SIGNS may have some of the creative use of strings I’ve heard in a film.
