Signs - Music by James
Newton Howard Hollywood Records 2002 |
|
| Fantastic!
James Newton Howard has created his best score to date for M. Night Shyamalans
SIGNS. The themes are unforgettable and capture the powerful emotion that runs through
this film. Howards score is delicate with a tender touch, warm and cozy and
mysterious at the same time. Howard really knows how to pick his spots to lash out or when
to hold back. This musical construction makes SIGNS an unpredictable audio experience. I think the Hollywood Studio Systems performance of Howards composition is awe-inspiring. If you listen closely to all the instruments and the different directions each instrument is going, you will be impressed. The separation of each component is mixed to individually stand out, yet is completely part of Howards whole sonic arsenal. The deep low bass parts are strong. Brass is used to incase overall mood and suspense. Clarinets, flutes oboes, bassoon are simply gorgeous and lead much of this score. SIGNS may have some of the creative use of strings Ive heard in a film. I had goose bumps and the hair stood up on my arms numerous times while listening to this CD. I highly recommend listening to this with headphones on. This is inspired work and one of the most pleasing soundtracks you can possibly buy. |
