Skulgrinder Island of Lost Souls Forget all those trendy descriptions old school, new school, nu-metal all that baloney. These four guys couldnt give a crap about that. Skulgrinder has made an album that is going to get you to bounce your head in unison or tear it off. |
|
| "Ego Critical" is a good choice to kick
off the album. Its memorable and will latch onto you like a leech. Michael
Knights thick guitar rhythm in "Tattooed City" works beautifully with
Brian Andersens tough voice. Unforgettable is the best description of Curt
Robinson's bass line intro in "Island of Lost Souls." Robinson works in harmony
with Kato Peragines beat, which sets up the platform for Michael Knight to kill it
on guitar. Anderson grabs this fourth song by the balls. "Jack City Jesus" has Michael Knight alternating between a devastating riff and screaming guitar embellishment. Kato provides some nasty bass drums in this track and also "Hail Storm." "Forgotten Prisoner" is an epic metal song. It starts slow and deliberate with Brian Anderson telling the story with his voice. The band backs him taking this tune from the feel of Metallicas "One" to Tanks "The War Drags Ever On." The opening to "Virtual Insanity" is pretty funny and sets the stage for Brian Anderson to give the song authority. Kato, Michael and Curt really fuse together in the solo section. Curt ushers in "Between the Lies" with throbbing bass that meshes with some heavy duty thrash rhythms that will have you moving. Michael Knight ignites "Cathedral in Flames" with a firestorm of guitar pyrotechnics. Skulgrinder should seriously consider "Nevermore" as one of their singles. This track is catchy and has a nice hook. The band gives Anthrax a run for their money with "In God We Trust." "Skulgrinder Audio Icon" is a neat little way to finish off the CD and establish the name of the band. |
