Slither
Music by Tyler Bates Bulletproof Entertainment 2006 |
|
| It took very little
coaxing to convince Writer/Director James Gunn who to choose as the music composer for his
directing debut SLITHER. Tyler Bates had scored the remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD was Gunn
had written. Also Gunn states (much to my agreement) that Tyler Bates score for THE DEVILS
REJECTS is one of the best in the past decade. For SLITHER Bates composes a large orchestra score that alternates between scares and almost over the top action scoring. Not having seen the film yet, I would imagine that the over the top stuff is designed to go with the films comedic elements. How can you not love a soundtrack with track titles such as: "Munchies," "Alien Rape," "Ho Lee Shit!," "Brenda Bursts," "Bedbugs," "Blood Vomit" and "Bitch Is Hardcore." My favorite tracks are very much in Tyler Bates tradition of hard hitting horrific cues "Infection", "Just a Bee Sting", "Can I Trust You!" "Bedbugs," "Blood Vomit" and "Starlas Got Her Gunn." Bates ventures into Danny Elfman territory with "Meteor" and he tips his hat to one of Alan Silvestris themes in PREDATOR with the cue titled "Russkies." The phrasing notes and use of orchestra is very similar. I took this as a cool thing. This score in some ways is Bates most traditional to date but that does not say its any less effective. The music is full of energy and Bates makes it as exciting as the film possibly allows. Ive heard nothing but good things about SLITHER and if its anywhere near as good as this score, everyone should make sure to see it. |
