Wachuma's Wave.jpg (6352 bytes) Wachuma’s Wave –
Music by Byron Metcalf &
Mark Seelig with Steve Roach

Spotted Peccary Music – 2003

Like the never-ending movement of the ocean, sound waves comprised of frame drums, pots, flutes, harmonic overtone vocals and chant elements carry this meditative CD. Wachuma’s Wave is broken up into six ten minute plus tracks of thought provoking music that will calm even the most restless soul. The presentation, like all Spotted Peccary releases features stellar recording, inspired composition and in a beautiful CD package. The artwork, like the music is rich with ambiance and pretty much lets the listener determine what it all means.

This runs just over 73 minutes, which passes so smoothly you will be surprised when it reaches the end. I think that anyone can appreciate this CD because it will make you feel good and maybe even inspire you to a higher state of mind. I’ve listened to this while working out, writing and even doing work at my job. It’s not surprising to discover on Byron Metcalf’s website that he holds a doctoral degree in transpersonal psychology, a master's degree in counseling psychology, and is a transpersonal therapist/teacher, shamanic practitioner. All of those aspects of Metcalf’s life mesh right into the music, which to means to me that he is completely successful at the effect his music has on listeners.

Mark Seelig’s vocal & flute contributions work in unison with what Metcalf does. Steve Roach joins it altogether with his undercurrent dronezones. They work as a team and you never are able to tell that it’s not all coming from one person.
