Stealing Time Music By Joey Newman La La Land Records 2004 This one was of the biggest surprise soundtracks of 2004. I had never heard of the film before but STEALING TIME is a whole lot of fun to listen to. It has the unmistakable Newman family touch. Joey Newman is a third generation film composer. His grandfather was Lionel Newman an Oscar winning composer who headed 20th Century Foxs music department for 46 years, after his brother Alfred (nine-time Oscar winner) stepped down. Joeys cousins are Randy, David and Thomas Newman. Talk about music in his blood. |

| "Main Title" has a combination sound
that is part HEATHERS mixed with AMERICAN BEAUTY. "Post-College Montage" has a
light hearted, uplifting sound that is along the lines of HEATHERS or DONT TELL MOM
THE BABYSITTERS DEAD. The rest of the score is incredibly balanced between orchestral soft passages, uplifting and thought provoking grooves. "Alec Persuades" gets funky with twisted keyboard lines and percussion. The delicate piano lines of "Casey & Kiley" give the score real sensitivity. "Bank Stakeout" and "Research" sound right out of the HBO series SIX FEET UNDER. Newman uses the strings to kind of jump out of "The Heist." Its in this track that Newmans percussion expertise (he started drumming at age 3) really stands out. La La Land Records has included four Bonus Cues, which includes "Alternate Main Title." STEALING TIME is a mighty fine soundtrack. |
