Texas Chainsaw Massacre Companion Written by Stefan Jaworzyn Titan Books, 2003 |
|
| This is the best kind of movie book. It informs,
makes you think, and entertains the entire time. I also found that it made me appreciate
things about each "chainsaw" film that I hadnt thought of before and maybe
most importantly made me want to go back and watch each film again. It also gave me the
urge to finally see TCM THE NEXT GENERATION; a movie that I had no desire watching
before reading this book. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Companion explores the origin and history of THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (TCM) and each of its sequels. I discovered intricate details about the entire production of each entry, most of which was absolutely fascinating. I believe just about every key production member has something to say and there are a lot of nice photos to accompany the text. It begins with of course with Tobe Hooper. Much has been said about this erratic filmmaker but the fact is TCM is a masterpiece of unrelenting terror. We discover Hoopers beginning working in Texas Television before tackling a feature film. EGGSHELLS, which was Hoopers first feature, is put out on the table and discussed by crew and cast. Its great to hear the honesty of key personnel who dont flinch at mentioning Hoopers flaws and quirks as a film director. There is are sections devoted to EATEN ALIVE and the films Hooper has made since TCM. I really enjoyed reading the chapter devoted to the films that have been made that were directly inspired by TCM. I was equally interested in the examination of the TCM documentaries and we get to hear from those filmmakers too. Im sure many of you will be curious to find out what the original cast and crew are doing today and this book will give you those answers. I have to add that I loved the listing of TCM related Internet sites to visit, one of which www.texaschainsawmassacre.net has to be seen. Texas Chainsaw Massacre Companion is thoroughly researched, wonderfully written and
essential to own. |
